Herndon, VA – April 23, 2025 – Menlo Digital, Menlo Equities‘ dedicated data center platform, today announced the structural topping out of its MD-VA1 data center in Herndon, Virginia, marking a key milestone in the development of a 48-megawatt facility in Northern Virginia, the world’s largest data center market.
Menlo Digital team members (L-R) Michael Johnston, Jane Vaughan, Vir Chahal, Kevin Kujawski, Allison Koo, TJ Ciccone, and Chris Coleman.
The Herndon facility, which broke ground in October 2025, is part of the company’s national development pipeline exceeding 1.8GW across Northern Virginia, Phoenix, Silicon Valley, Dallas, and Chicago – underscoring Menlo’s capabilities in executing large-scale data center projects in key growth markets.
Located along the Route 28 corridor at 13775 McLearen Road, MD-VA1 is a two-story, 307,000-square-foot data center designed to deliver 48 megawatts of critical IT capacity, supported by approximately 67 megawatts of utility power from Dominion Energy’s Lincoln Park Substation. The facility will feature multiple high-density data halls engineered to support advanced computing workloads, including cloud and AI applications, with infrastructure designed for operational resilience, energy efficiency, and long-term scalability.
The project was advanced through Menlo Digital’s development model, which emphasizes early site control, power procurement, and entitlement, enabling efficient execution and flexibility as projects move through construction and leasing. Construction of MD-VA1 is being led by Clune Construction, a national general contractor with extensive experience delivering complex mission-critical facilities.
“Reaching the topping out milestone for MD-VA1 reflects the strength of our development strategy and the dedication of the entire project team,” said Jane Vaughan, Partner and Chief Development Officer, at Menlo Digital. “Northern Virginia remains the world’s most important data center market, and this facility is designed to deliver the scale, reliability, and performance required by hyperscale and enterprise customers. We are proud to advance construction on a project that will provide meaningful new capacity in this critical region.”
“We are proud to partner with Menlo Digital on the delivery of MD-VA1,” said Paul Stupka, Project Executive and Senior Vice President at Clune Construction. “Achieving this milestone safely and on schedule reflects exceptional coordination across the entire project team. We look forward to supporting Menlo through the next phases of construction and commissioning.”
With structural work now complete, construction will progress into mechanical, electrical, and interior systems installation ahead of final commissioning and operational readiness, which is anticipated to occur in the first half of 2027.
